Seymour, CT – July 13, 2024 — Every time Marie Louissaint finishes cleaning someone’s home, she says it makes her feel like a superwoman.
“Our customers call us angels that God sent,” Louissaint said. “You can see the smiles on their faces after we clean their homes.”
And lately, Louissaint has been giving some members of the community another reason to smile.
Louissaint, who is the owner of MSL Housekeeping Services based at 252 Bank St., is partnering with a national nonprofit organization – Cleaning for a Reason – to provide free house cleaning services for people battling cancer.
Cleaning for a Reason has formed partnerships with more than 1,400 residential cleaners in the U.S. and Canada and donated more than $19 million in services to more than 55,000 cancer patients, according to a press release.
“Doing this is very important for me,” Louissaint said of the partnership. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to initiate meaningful contributions to our community, especially in supporting cancer patients during their time of need.”
After partnering with the nonprofit on May 1, Louissaint said she and her 10 employees were paired up with six different homeowners in the Valley and surrounding areas. The homes of the cancer patients are each provided with two free, deep cleaning services for two consecutive months, Louissaint said.
Louissaint said the cost for a thorough, whole house deep cleaning can range from $350-$950, depending on the size of the home. But being able to contribute two months of free services to people who need it most is priceless to Louissaint.
“We have 10 employees who have cleaned more than 5,000 houses since we opened our business, and it’s because of the community who embraced us and our services, that we want to help and give back.”
Louissaint, who originally hails from Haiti where she worked as an accountant, moved to the U.S. in 2015 and founded MSL in 2017. She previously worked in the healthcare industry and knows firsthand that when you’re not feeling well, the last thing you want to do is clean your house.
“Cancer patients often need cleanings because their immune systems can be compromised due to treatment, and making a clean environment is crucial for their health and recovery,” Louissaint said.
Seymour Pink founder Mary Deming, a local leader in the fight against breast cancer, said the partnership is valuable for patients who are already overburdened by treatments.
“Anytime any of us can lessen the burdens that our put upon cancer patients, due to their barbaric treatments, we need to do that,” Deming said. “Sometimes their treatments can affect them for a day or a week, and cleaning the house is not a top priority. It’s hard for people to accept help and ask for help and something like this — a free cleaning service – that’s golden.”
Cleaning for a Reason’s founder, Debbie Sardone, was happy to welcome Louissaint and MSL onboard.
“Their commitment to providing cleaning services to cancer patients will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing this difficult journey,” Sardone said in a prepared statement. “Together, we can offer comfort and support when it’s needed most.”
Louissaint said anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation in order to allow MSL to offer free services to more cancer patients is encouraged to do so.
“We are fundraising in support of the nonprofit to help more cancer patients receive the gift of a clean home,” Louissaint said.
