Cleaning for a Reason Celebrates 20 Years of Turning Clean Homes Into Moments of Hope

Rosemont, IL — August 28, 2026 — For 20 years, Cleaning for a Reason has been turning something as simple as a clean home into something much bigger: relief, dignity, and hope for families facing cancer.
Today, the nonprofit celebrates two decades of impact through a growing network of more than 1,400 professional cleaning companies across the United States and Canada that donate home cleaning services to local cancer patients.
Since 2006, the nonprofit and its partners have donated more than $23 million in services, helping more than 65,000 cancer patients.
Free Cleaning Services for Cancer Patients
When cancer treatment takes over a family’s life, everyday responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming. A clean home may seem like a small thing, but for someone fighting cancer, it can mean one less burden, one less source of stress, and one more opportunity to focus on healing and the people they love.
For one Cleaning for a Reason patient, the impact goes even deeper.
“My immune system is compromised, so having a clean, healthy home is really important to me,” shared Jesse M., a cancer patient. “I’m so grateful to the professionals who donate their time to help people like me. When you’re going through cancer, there’s already so much that feels out of your control. Having help with the cleaning lifted a weight I didn’t realize I was carrying. It gave me back a sense of order and control at a time when I really needed it. I no longer felt like I was falling behind at home, and that gave me more peace of mind to focus on my health and everything I need to do to fight this cancer.”
Cleaning for a Reason connects cancer patients with professional cleaning companies that donate their services. Cancer patients of any age, gender or type of cancer may apply for free home cleaning services.
“Cancer can make life feel like it has suddenly been turned upside down,” said Lucy Lee, Program Manager for Cleaning for a Reason. “When a cleaning professional walks through a patient’s door, they’re not just cleaning a home. They’re giving that person a chance to breathe. They’re taking one responsibility off a family’s shoulders when they’re already carrying so much. Sometimes, having a clean home gives someone back a little sense of control—and reminds them that they don’t have to face this alone.”

Jeannie Henderson, owner of Jeannie Cleaning in Portage, MI, has been partnered with Cleaning for a Reason and donating cleanings since 2017.
“Cleaning your house is the last thing you want to do when you are going through treatment,” started Henderson. “We are committed to helping our local community by offering help with house cleaning services.”
