A Clean Break
Grand Finale has partnered with nonprofit to clean homes for cancer patients.
La Grange, KY – March 14, 2024 – A local cleaning company is working with a nonprofit to give cancer patients a little help during the worst time of their lives by offering two free cleanings. Sydney Randall with Grand Finale Cleaning said the company’s owner heard about Cleaning for a Reason, “and she felt like it was needed.”
Randall is office manager for Grand Finale. “So many who have cancer can’t get around well, and people don’t really think about things like this,” she said.
Owner Billie Hayes connected with the nonprofit at a conference, and Randall said they’d never heard of such a service – they thought it was great.
“We’d offer some help on occasions with some of our clients …” she said, discounts for dire situations. “But this nonprofit came along, and they offer it consistently.”
According to its website, Cleaning for a Reason is the “charitable arm” of ISSA, which is the International Sanitary Supply Association. It also says each cleaning company essentially is partnering with the organization to donate services, and the nonprofit works on organizing matches.
“They connect with cleaning companies in areas and see who wants to participate,” Randall said. She said cancer patients can use the link on the nonprofit’s website – at cleaningforareason.org – to submit an application.
“And anyone in the local area can request us, since we already work with them.” Grand Finale provides services in Oldham, Jefferson and Shelby counties, with a goal of getting into Elizabethtown and some regional areas, Randall said.
The Grand Finale cleaning staff generally carries anywhere from 300-400 clients.
Most of the company’s clients are private residences, and they also do some construction clean-ups as well. “Those are like for new home construction, whenever they do a remodel or new build, we’ll come clean them.”
Missi Gritton, of Oldham County, said she heard about the opportunity because a family member works for Grand Finale. Gritton’s husband, Robert, is in his third year of battling a progressive cancer.
“He has good days and bad days, a lot of fatigue and soreness …” Gritton said. And oftentimes, they find themselves “going from one doctor’s appointment to another.”
She said it wasn’t very long after she applied with Cleaning for a Reason that she heard back from them. “They had just partnered with Grand Finale, and Billie (Hayes) came out and did a walk through. Then she sent a crew out from there.”
Gritton said it was pretty nice to have her home cleaned from top to bottom by professionals. And that what some see as a thorough cleaning could mean something way different to a cancer patient.
“Well, his immune system is compromised so having a clean house really helps him.”
Not to mention, she said, “It’s very nice to have one less thing on my plate to take care of.”
Randall said Grand Finale has had existing clients who they found out were suffering from cancer, “so we send them through the organization. It helps alleviate the cost – it can be expensive to have a cleaning service.”
Randall said the cleaning company has been around for more than 20 years, and incorporated back in 2005. “The owner had been cleaning on her own before then,” she said.
Now, Grand Finale has 23 field employees, from all parts of the state, and three office staff. They generally carry anywhere from 300 to 400 clients.
“We really just want to spread the word about this service, because it’s for such a good cause,” Randall said. “We might get the chance to help someone who may be in the middle of treatments, struggling to keep up with their home cleaning.”
