Grand Rapids, MI — October 15, 2025 — There is a long list of things to worry about when going through a cancer journey. Cleaning your house should not be one of them.
Cleaning for a Reason is an international effort to provide free house cleaning for cancer patients going through treatment.
“You never really realize how something’s going to impact your life until you’re in it,” said Jeannie Henderson, CEO of Jeannie Cleaning.
Jeannie Cleaning works with Cleaning for a Reason. They offer two free cleaning services for cancer patients, plus discounted cleaning for six months after that.
“When you’re sick and you just don’t feel good, that’s the last thing you want to do,” said Kim McClimans.
McClimans was first diagnosed with cancer at age 28. Now, 35 years later, her lymphoma was back and even more aggressive.
“They had given me two months to live last fall,” said McClimans.
She began a treatment called CAR-T Cell Therapy in March. After time in the hospital, she came home to help. Even during her recovery, cleaning was not a priority. Her friends called Jeannie Cleaning to help out.

“I get great girls that come out and clean my house, and I’m sitting in my recliner sleeping while they’re just taking care of everything,” said McClimans. “I’m so blessed, so very blessed.”
For Henderson, her involvement with Cleaning for a Reason is personal. She originally found the organization when her friend in another state was diagnosed with cancer. One of her first cancer patients she cleaned for was her own mother back in 2017.
“So many people I love, including the love of my life, my husband, and my sister, are all dealing with this,” said Henderson. “I am now seeing firsthand what it’s like. And I, myself, had my home cleaned by my team last week, and could feel that sense of relief, because it’s just hard to keep up with all the things that we have to keep up with as we’re caring for that person that we love.”

Henderson said there are about 47 other cleaning companies in Michigan providing this service.
As for McClimans, her latest PET scan was very good.
“Very grateful for this,” said McClimans. “I’m here. I’m here at the holiday season again.”
Henderson said Cleaning for a Reason is always looking for more cleaning companies to take part. They also accept donations to keep the service free for cancer patients. You can learn more about how to get involved on Jeannie Cleaning’s website.
