FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL COMPANY MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN COMMUNITY

Columbia, South Carolina – September 2, 2014 – Deserved Comfort Housekeeping, LLC is a cleaning company that has teamed up with Cleaning For A Reason, an international nonprofit foundation. In 1986, Bunny McKelvey, a native of Columbia, South Carolina and a former banker, established Deserved Comfort. After realizing the demand for this type of service, and after extensive market research, Bunny hired several employees, engaged them in a rigorous training program, and began her quest to provide the highest quality cleaning service available at reasonable rates. In 1987, while attending the University of South Carolina, Marlo McKelvey Kanipe, Bunny’s daughter, joined the company. Although Bunny has retired, Marlo continues to own and manage the daily operations of Deserved Comfort and still emphasizes quality service, client satisfaction and reasonable rates.

Kanipe states, “On June 30, 2011, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. My surgery was scheduled within one week of my diagnosis. I went through 4 months of chemotherapy and underwent 33 radiation treatments. Because I was managing the business by myself at that time, I sent letters to all of our clients to let them know that there may be times when they would get a voice mail instead of a live person. I asked for their patience and their prayers. The response was overwhelming! Although I had never personally met most of these clients, they took such an interest in my situation and my well-being. I received cards and calls from our wonderful clients, many of whom shared their own experience with me. Our housekeepers were also very concerned and committed themselves to being at work every day and making sure to do everything they could to make my life easier. I was truly blessed. I’ve made it a personal mission to give back in every way possible, so when I learned about Cleaning For A Reason, I knew I had to be involved. What an awesome way to help someone who really needs it! I am thrilled to be a part of their organization and look forward to making the days of a cancer patient a little brighter.”

The company has agreed to help women battling cancer by cleaning two homes per month for four consecutive months at no charge. The only requirement is that the homes be within the company’s existing service area of Greater Columbia and surrounding areas including Cayce, West Columbia, Lexington, and Irmo. For more information about this company, go to www.deservedcomfort.com.

Cleaning For A Reason strives to aid women who are battling cancer by teaming up with cleaning services across the United States and Canada. Together, these two forces offer free maid services to meet the needs of women, and since 2006, have donated more than $4.2 million in free services, helping more than 15,000 women with cancer. Based in Lewisville, TX, Cleaning For A Reason works with more than 1,100 residential cleaning services and continues to grow and gain support.
