Virginia – May 5, 2014 – Two local businesses are lending a helping hand to women undergoing cancer treatment.

Nathan Casey, owner of HRC Cleaning Services in Dinwiddie, and Lacresha Mason, founder of The Cleaning Fairy in Prince George, have partnered with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization that helps women who are going through any type of cancer treatment throughout the United States.

Cleaning for a Reason, which was founded in May 2006 in Texas, uses local community partners, like HRC Cleaning Services and The Cleaning Fairy, to donate general house cleanings to two clients at a time. The partners will clean their houses twice a month for four consecutive months.

Casey says he heard about Cleaning for a Reason through Facebook and got involved with the organization two months ago.

“I did my research and thought it would be a good cause,” Casey said.

Mason also heard about the organization through Facebook and feels this is her way of giving back to the community.

She has been involved with Cleaning for a Reason for two weeks.

“I’m really looking forward to it and I’m excited,” Mason said. “Cancer touches everybody and it’s just a really great cause.”

Casey says he has been partnered with two women and will clean their houses for the first time in the next few weeks.

Women with cancer who are interested in getting their houses cleaned fill out an application on the Cleaning for a Reason website and are matched to a partner in their community. According to the Cleaning for a Reason website, the women are required to provide a doctor’s note confirming that they are, in fact, undergoing treatment.

“I will just do a basic cleaning for them, but I like to meet with them and see what their needs are,” Casey said.

Mason anticipates hearing from Cleaning for a Reason in the near future. She recently gave the organization local zip codes that she would be willing to travel to so they could match her with women who have applied.

According to the Cleaning for a Reason website, the organization has provided over 14,000 cleanings with the help of more than 1,000 partners who have donated cleaning services since 2006. These cleanings are valued at over $3 million.

The website also lists community partner’s benefits that extend beyond helping local women undergoing cancer treatment, including using the Cleaning for a Reason logo on websites, business cards, and any other type of advertising, name recognition with Cleaning for a Reason’s corporate sponsors (P&G, Swiffer, Staples Advantage, Walmart and Zep), and having their business on the Cleaning for a Reason website.

Casey says he has received positive support from the community.

On April 16, the Wendy’s located at 5103 Oaklawn Boulevard in Hopewell donated 15 percent of its total sales between 2 and 5 p.m. to Cleaning for a Reason.

“I have received positive feedback in the community,” Casey said. “I’m just trying to get the word out.”
